Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use frozen pork chops in this slow cooker pork chops recipe?

If you don’t have time to thaw the pork chops before putting them into the slow cooker you can use frozen pork chops just fine in this recipe. You may need to cook the recipe a little longer.

Can I use a packet of dry brown gravy mix instead of the jarred gravy called for in the recipe?

If you do not have access to jarred brown gravy you can instead use a packet of brown gravy mix. We suggest that you follow the directions on the packet of brown gravy mix to make the gravy and then add it to the slow cooker along with the pork chops and ranch dressing mix.

I don’t have a packet of ranch dressing mix, any suggestions?

We have a wonderful recipe for Homemade Ranch Seasoning mix that not only tastes fantastic but also has less sodium that will work wonderfully in this recipe. If you don’t wish to make your own ranch dressing mix you could also substitute with a packet of French onion soup mix.

Can I add more ingredients to the crockpot pork chops?

While the beauty of this recipe lies in its simplicity, feel free to experiment with additional seasonings or ingredients to suit your taste preferences. Feel free to add minced garlic or garlic powder, onions, herbs, freshly ground black pepper, sliced mushrooms or other ingredients to make this recipe your own!

Can I use bone-in pork chops instead of boneless chops?

Yes, bone-in pork chops can be used in this recipe, but they may need to cook a little bit longer, so be sure to adjust the cooking time accordingly.

Can the pork chops be frozen? Or do we need to thaw them first?

This recipe was cooked using thawed pork chops. I have not tested with frozen but it should work. But the cooking time will probably be a little longer.

I am so sorry Deborah that your grocery store was out of ranch dressing mix. I am not really sure what else to use for this recipe besides making your own ranch dressing mix.

If I use only 4 pork chops, I know how to reduce the other ingredients, but what adjustment (if any) would I make to the cooking time? Thanks for your help!

This recipe has not been tested using only 4 pork chops but I would probably cut the cooking time by 45 minutes and then check the pork chops and cook longer only if needed.

I’m thinking of putting carrots in with the pork chops to cook as a veggie to go with it. Would that work?

Hi Sandi, while this recipe has not been tested using dry au jus gravy mix I think it will work. The gravy/sauce may be thinner using this but the flavor will still be tasty I think and if you wanted to thickened up the sauce after it cooks with a little cornstarch slurry that would probably work.

While we have not tested this recipe using frozen pork chops it should be fine. I would add 1 additional hour of cooking if using frozen meat. Thanks for your question Sonya.

Thank you Deena I was wondering why they used Beef instead of Pork gravy for this. Thank you for being an innovator. I JUST tossed this in the crock pot already, but next time I will use the Pork gravy!

I made this tonight for my very picky eater wife, she does not like Rosemary, Sage or Thyme. She is not a fan of pork AND Pepper and Worcestershire Sauce are “a little spicy” for her. She also does not like “gravy”.
She said this was certainly a do again meal! I made it exactly per the recipe except I only used two 3.5 ounce Boneless Pork Chops.
