Pressure Cooker Basic Steel Cut Oatmeal

If you like steel cut oatmeal for breakfast then you are going to LOVE cooking them in your Crock-Pot Express. No more cooking them for HOURS in the stove-top (or even overnight for slow cooker steel cut oatmeal).

Now you can throw in your plain steel cut oats and water into your Crock-Pot Express and pressure cook them in just a matter of minutes.

No fuss, no mess, and this BASIC plain steel cut oatmeal recipe can be used as the basis of so many more flavored oatmeal creations (of which we will be sharing more flavors soon).

As is, this basic oatmeal recipe is pretty darn healthy. Clocking in at 223 calories, 4 grams of fat, zero cholesterol, zero sugar and a healthy 6 grams of fiber per serving.

And it is Weight Watchers friendly too if you are following the WW plan (4 Points Blue and Green plans OR ZERO points Purple plan)!

Of course the nutritional information will change depending on what sweeteners you use, add ins (fruits, nuts, etc).

My favorite personally is to mix in some Splenda Brown Sugar Blend and some ground cinnamon. That makes me perfectly happy in the morning.

Instructions
  1. Add the steel cut oats and water to the insert of your Crock-Pot Express Multi-Cooker.
  2. Close and lock the lid, making sure the valve is set to sealing.
  3. Set on MANUAL, HIGH PRESSURE, for 4 minutes. Press START.
  4. Allow the pressure cooker to come to pressure (takes about 15 to 20 minutes) and allow the oats to cook for the 4 minutes.
  5. When the time is up, let the pressure cooker naturally release for 10 minutes.
  6. Carefully turn the valve to venting to release any remaining pressure. Carefully remove the lid and set aside.
  7. Stir the oatmeal before serving, topping with your preferred sweetener and toppings of choice and enjoy!
Recipe Notes

*Non-Stick Note - Because the Crock-Pot Express version that we have comes with a non-stick insert there is no need to do anything before cooking your oats. However if you are using a different version of the Crock-Pot Express or another brand of electric pressure cooker (InstaPot, Cuisinart, MooSoo, Presto, etc.) that does not have a non-stick insert you may wish to spray the insert with non-stick cooking spray or lightly coat with butter)
