This recipe for Crock-Pot Potatoes, Sausage And Green Beans is reminiscent of a depression era recipe my grandma used to make. Very easy and frugal too! Potatoes, smoked kielbasa sausage and green beans are cooked in the slow cooker for a complete dinner that doesn’t break the bank!

Slow Cooker Potatoes, Sausage And Green Beans
I happened upon a huge bag of fresh green beans at the grocery store that was on special. Add that in with a 5 pound bag of potatoes that were on sale and it is time to think of a cheap but delicious meal that will feed the family and we already know it isn’t going to kill the bank!
My grandma grew up in the depression and usually tossed together these meals that were cheap but tasty. One was a mixture of green beans, potatoes and sausage. She used polish sausage but I chose to use turkey sausage. And she used a can of chicken broth and a little spice. She would let it cook slowly all day.
I prefer to slice my sausage in more of a bite size piece. My grandma use to cut them bigger where she had to slice them before eating them.
Clean and peel your potatoes. Then cube them in smaller pieces. A bag of pre-cut potatoes like the ones you find in the refrigerated section will work too.
For the green beans, if you are using fresh beans. Cut the ends off, remove the “string” and either use cut in smaller pieces or toss in whole. You can use canned green beans too. Two cans of green beans drained should do you just fine.
Combine all the ingredients, put the lid on and let this cook on LOW for 8 hours. If you use larger pieces of potatoes, this can increase your time.
I remember my grandma making this meal once her garden was in full swing. She would bring the beans in fresh off the vine and cook this for dinner.
I hope you enjoy this frugal recipe as much as me and my family did!
1 – Prepare your ingredients: dice the potatoes, slice the kielbasa and trim the green beans.

2 – Add all of the ingredients to a 4 quart slow cooker (or larger) and stir to combine..

3 – Cover and cook on LOW heat for 6 to 8 hours or until the potatoes are “fork tender”. Meaning, you can easily poke one with a fork and they are cooked through.

How much is one serving?
One serving is 1/6th of the recipe.
I have tried several of your recopies. This is one of my favorites. So easy and so delicious. The smell of the kielbasa cooking is so good. I even just use canned diced potatoes and canned green beans. So all I have to do is cut up the kielbasa and open a few cans.
if you used canned potatoes and beans did you adjust the cooking time? I has actually thought of using canned goods and cooking maybe 4 hours on low?!
This recipe has not been tested with canned potatoes or green beans. But cooking it for a shorter time (4 hours on LOW should be fine). Since all your ingredients are pretty much already cooked all you need to do is let the slow cooker warm things up and let the flavors develop.
Did you use onion? Looks like it in the picture
Hi Jastina, there is no onion in this recipe. What you may be seeing in the photo is bits of cooked potato that “flaked off” during cooking. You can of course add onion if you want to. I think it would add some great flavor!
I’m making this now and the one can of broth don’t look like enough, is the broth suppose to cover the ingredients?
Hi Jamie, the 1 can of broth just adds some liquid to the dish but does not need to cover the ingredients.
It clearly shows and states to add onion in the video, but not in the recipe. Must be an error.
What cooking time/settings are needed for an Instant Pot? Thanks.
Hi Graves, thanks for your comment. This recipe has not been tested using an Instant Pot and so I am unable to recommend settings and cooking time as this is a slow cooker recipe. If you give it a try on your own however please come on back and let us know how it turned out and what you did to make it work in the Instant Pot!
Could you clarify the kind of potatoes you used? The recipe says it’s for a 4 quart slow cooker, but the six potatoes I used were enough to fill a 4.5 quart slow cooker on their own.
I believe that I used 6 medium sized Yukon gold potatoes. You can always try cutting the potatoes up smaller if they don’t fit in your slow cooker.
I haven’t made this yet but I wanted to ask. The recipe says 1 tbsp of seasoned salt. Is that the correct amount? It seems like a lot.
Hi Jan, yes that measurement is correct. However, you can use less if you think it is too much.
I thought I saw a comment about adding cherry tomatoes. Should they be added at the beginning?
Hi Karen, I think adding cherry tomatoes at the beginning would be okay. If you give it a try let us know how it turned out for you!
This turned out really good! My whole family, including my picky husband, like it! Thanks for the recipe! Will be making it again soon!
Thanks Christi for the very kind 5-star review of this recipe for Crock-Pot Potatoes, sausage and green beans. I am so happy to hear that the recipe went over well with everyone in your family including your picky eater husband. Not always an easy feat!
