Slow Cooker Hot Shrimp Dip
I recently picked up a bag of cooked salad shrimp thinking that I would add them to a salad. When I got home from the grocery store I tossed the shrimp in the freezer and kind of sort of forgot about it.
I made my salads all week and forgot to add the shrimp.
Has that kind of thing ever happened to you?
So, when I spied the bag of frozen salad shrimp lingering in my freezer I needed to come up with a recipe for them.
Low and behold I was expecting my friends over that evening and so I decided to use the shrimp to make a yummy warm dip in my slow cooker.
I thawed the shrimp out and because they are little tiny shrimp that are already peeled, de-veined and cooked all I had to do was give them a rough chop and throw them in the slow cooker.
Then I added some cream cheese, finely diced onion, garlic powder and shredded Parmesan cheese and let it cook for about 1 hour just until everything was hot and all the cheeses were melted.
When my friends came over I set out some slices of crusty bread and some crackers and we all dug into the shrimp dip and it was a huge hit!

For this recipe I used a bag of frozen pre-cooked salad shrimp that I thawed before using. Because the shrimp is already cooked the cooking time for this dip is only about 1 hour in the slow cooker. Just long enough to warm up the shrimp and melt the cheeses.
It is safe to hold this dip for up to 2 hours on the WARM setting once the dip is done cooking. This will allow you to keep the dip warm while serving to your party guests.
