The kids will love this fun and classic recipe for Crock-Pot Beanie Weenies. Canned pork and beans and hot dogs are seasoned up with a few basic ingredients for a recipe everyone will love!
Crock-Pot Beanie Weenies
Growing up my mom used to make beanie weenies as a frugal meal that was super kid friendly. However, she usually just opened a can of pork and beans and poured them into a pot, cut up some hot dogs, tossed them in with the beans and heated it all up until everything was hot. Simple, easy and us kids loved it.
This recipe takes the same basic premise of mom’s go-to “I need to get something on the table for dinner” recipe and jazzes it up just a little bit with the addition of onion, bacon, mustard and brown sugar. Which just takes the flavor up just a notch making it even better.
Putting everything in the slow cooker allows for a little slower an lower cooking time which allows the flavors to develop a little bit more.
This recipe is still super easy to make and to be honest it is one of my comfort food recipes that takes me back to my childhood.
I either serve this bean dish with cornbread muffins or just plain buttered saltine crackers (which is another one of those comfort food items from my own childhood.
I often serve this for dinner for my family but it also makes a nice side dish too for some grilled chicken or hamburgers.
Enjoy!
