Slow Cooker Homemade Chocolate Fudge Sauce

I love a good hot fudge sundae. Good quality vanilla bean ice cream drizzled with some warm chocolate fudge sauce. Maybe a maraschino cherry on top.

Perfection!

And this EASY 3-ingredient chocolate hot fudge sauce is perfection. It is so good you may find yourself eating it by the spoonful, cold, in the middle of the night!

Equipment Needed For Crock-Pot Homemade Chocolate Fudge Sauce Recipe:

  • 3 Quart, 3.5 Quart Or 4 Quart Slow Cooker
  • Measuring Cup
  • Can Opener
  • Silicone Spatula

Common Questions:

Can I Keep This Hot Fudge Sauce Warm For A Party?

If you are serving this at a party you can keep the hot fudge sauce warm by turning your slow cooker to the WARM setting for up to 4 hours. You may need to stir the sauce from time to time. A great idea for a ice cream sundae party!

Can I Use Milk Chocolate Or Dark Chocolate Chips To Make This Hot Fudge Sauce?

This recipe works well with both milk chocolate and dark chocolate chips (as well as the semi-sweet chocolate chips mentioned in the recipe). So feel free to make this using your preferred kind of chocolate!

How Long Can I Store This Hot Fudge Sauce In The Refrigerator?

Once cooked the hot fudge is best used up within 2 weeks. Although, I can almost promise you it won’t last that long when you realize how amazing it tastes. I have been known to eat a spoonful straight from the jar from time to time. 🙂

Instructions
  1. Add all ingredients to a 3 to 4 quart slow cooker (see note).
  2. Cover and cook on LOW for 30 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes or so until the chocolate chips are melted. Continue cooking longer only as needed stirring every 10 minutes.
  3. Store finished hot fudge sauce in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
  4. To reheat hot fudge sauce remove lid from container and microwave in 10 second intervals, stirring between intervals until melted and hot. You can also reheat the fudge in a pan of simmering water if you stored your hot fudge sauce in a glass jar.
Recipe Notes

If you do not have a small 3 to 4 quart slow cooker you can still make this recipe in a larger slow cooker simply by placing the ingredients in a heat proof bowl. I just use a glass Pyrex bowl and place it inside the stoneware crock insert of your slow cooker and cook according to the recipe.

Using a larger crockpot, does water need to be added like a double boiler?

Hi Sylvia, this recipe has not been tested in a larger sized Crock-Pot. However if I were to try it, I would insert a heat-safe bowl inside the larger sized slow cooker and cook the sauce in the bowl. No need to add water around/under the larger bowl like a double boiler. The smaller bowl will prtect the sauce from being in a too thin of a layer and over cooking.

Be sure to come on back and rate the recipe and let us know how it turned out for you!
