I made this recipe over the weekend and when done after 2 hours on high, it looked the same as when I first put it in the pot. I cooled the crock pot and cooked it again the next day but this time I added a 1/4 c of water, cooked on low for 4 hours and it came out perfect!

I did not read the recipe for Apple Dump Cake, I just used 2 cans of apples in place of cherries. It came out great!
Afterwards I looked up the recipe and realized that I left out a few ingredients. My Bad!

i know it says 29 ounces in ingredients but it wold be better to say 2 cans of.
i got all other stuff ready and only had 1 can of fruit.. doesn’t work the same if you only use 1/2 the mixture. something was missing for sure. will try again with all the ingredients.

Hi Gail, we use ounces instead of “cans of” because can sizes differ. We feel it is more accurate to use measurements whenever possible.

Could fresh apples be used with this recipe? If so, what would need to be adjusted? Time? Ingredients? Maybe both? Thanks so much.

Hi! I made this to bring to a Thanksgiving celebration today. I used a 4-quart oval Crockpot, and two 21oz cans of apple pie filling (that’s what the store had.) I also used a full cup of melted butter, because the oat+cake mix looked a little dry. The “dump cake” turned out fabulous and was a huge hit amongst guests! Lol, people actually asked if I had a name for “my” delicious desert! Thanks a lot, ladies! ❤️

I just made this crock pot apple crisp dump cake. I cooked it in the crock pot on high for 2 hours. The cake/crisp part turned out mushy. I cooked it another hour & it was still mushy. So I put the crock in the oven for 15 minutes @ 400°.in hopes of crisping up the cake/crisp part. Didn’t help. I believe I followed the instructions correctly. The cake, oatmeal & butter mixture did look dry but I just crumbled it on top of the apples. Any ideas about what went wrong? I welcome any help, tips & remarks. Thank you! Barb

It doesn’t crisp up like it would in an oven.
