Prep Time 15Minutes
Cook Time 5Hours On HIGH
Instructions
  1. Line 6-quart slow cooker with a crock-pot liner or spray with a non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Place the sliced onions in the bottom of the slow cooker.
  3. Take out the corned beef from the packaging and discard the seasoning packet included in the package. Rinse off the beef briefly in cold water and place on top of the sliced onions.
  4. Place the bay leaf on top of the corned beef and push the cloves in to the meat all over.
  5. In a small bowl mix together the water, brown sugar, mustard and black pepper and stir to combine.
  6. Pour the mixture carefully over the beef without losing the bay leaf.
  7. Cover and cook on HIGH for 5 hours.
  8. I pulled it out after the 5 hours, and placed it in a bowl and covered it until we were ready, and then I sliced it.
Recipe Notes

For a slightly different flavor profile you could substitute the 3/4 cup of water with your favorite beer or even a little apple juice!

Why brown sugar? Can I leave it out?

The sweetness in the brown sugar offsets the saltiness of the corned beef. However you can omit it.

Hi I was wondering how long I should cook this if I cook it on low since it says 5 hours on high. Thanks

Would you mind clarifying, please?: The recipe says 5 hours on HIGH but the quick reference guide at the top of the page says 5 hours on LOW. Since it’s beef, I’m assuming the time and level in the recipe is the accurate guide. Is my assumption correct?

Thank you for your time! I’m really looking forward to using this recipe!

Sorry about that Amanda, the recipe should read 5 hours on HIGH not on LOW. I have gone ahead and fixed the recipe to be consistent in all places. Thanks for your comment letting us know about the error.

The corned beef briskets I have purchased all contain a spice packet but there is no mention in this recipe, do you add it?
