Crock-Pot Homemade Apple Sauce

  1. Add prepared apples and water to a 6 quart or larger slow cooker.
  2. Cover and cook on LOW for 4 hours.
  3. Using a food mill, food processor or blender puree the cooked apples until smooth.
  4. Add pureed apples back into slow cooker and add a cinnamon and taste the apple sauce.
  5. Add a sugar a little at a time, stirring a tasting after each addition until the apple sauce is as sweet as you like it.
  6. Recover slow cooker and continue to cook on LOW for an additional 4 hours.
  7. Once apple sauce is cooked you can ladle the hot apple sauce into canning jars and process in a water bath canner for 20 minutes, adjusting for altitude as needed. OR you can store the apple sauce in freezer containers in the freezer for up to 6 months.
Recipe Notes

I like apple sauce made with the apples peeled off but you can opt to leave the peels on if you are short on time. Also, if you use a red apple the color from the skins will make your apple sauce a lovely shade of pink!
