If you do not have fresh peaches, you can use peaches in the can. Cook on warm with the lid ajar (on but not totally on).

could you do this recipe with apples?
Hi Neena,
I would totally think you could do this with apples. We have a recipe for apple butter here: http://crockpotladies.com/recipe-categories/sauces/crockpot-apple-butter/ that I am sure could be adapted to use vanilla instead of the spices.
Let us know how it turns out!

If using canned peaches, how much or how many cans would you use? I might try this, but due to lack of fresh peaches that actually taste good (store bought), I might use canned instead. Love your website!! =)
Yes you could used canned (drain them first). I cant remember what size the cans come in. But I am thinking off hand maybe 2 or 3 cans? It has been awhile since I purchased canned peaches. I was given a few of those large “cafeteria” size cans that could last a family a lifetime and am still working on using those up.
