I made my chicken in the crock-pot first by adding in the chicken and about 6 cups of water. This made my broth and chicken for the recipe. I then had just over 2 cups of broth left over for another time.

That looks scrumptious. I love chicken and dumplings. I will be making this soon !
This looks like a fab recipe cuz I can never make dumplins like my momma did on the stovetop!
Question about cooking the chicken 1st. How long and at what temp? (I’m still very new with my crockpot!)
Thanks, Tiffany
cooking chicken depends on how much, is it frozen or thawed, and how much time you have on your hands! http://crockpotladies.com/recipe-categories/entrees/crockpot-chicken/ this recipe might help you along. This was cooking a whole chicken in the crock-pot. Using water will get you broth in the end. Chicken is probably one of the easiest to make in the crock, cook it on low frozen and you might be looking at 7-8 hours…cook it on high and 4 should do you. I like to cook a full pot of chicken, save the broth for later uses, and then pick the chicken and make a few good recipes out of it.
I have made this twice now with turkey left over from thanksgiving and it was very good! I loved my dads chicken and dumplings and this is the closest i can get!
