Recently we asked for some ideas of how we could celebrate a milestone of reaching 2000 fans on our Facebook page and one of the ideas given by reader Laura C. was to have a “Crock Around the Clock” day where we posted recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert.  Well we never shy away at taking a great idea and running with it so today the Crock-Pot Ladies bring you “Crock Around The Clock” with 4 great recipes being posted throughout the day.

My contribution to the day was a breakfast recipe I adapted from this Apple Pie for Breakfast recipe on Cooking with Jax.  My kids aren’t huge breakfast eaters but if I tell them they can have apple pie for breakfast, they’re all over that.  This was so easy to make and I would eat this for breakfast, snack or dessert personally. Crock-Pot Apple Pie for Breakfast

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 4 hours

Total Time: 4 hours, 10 minutes

Yield: 6 Servings

Serving Size: 1 Cup

Crock-Pot Apple Pie for Breakfast

Ingredients

3 Gala Apples, Diced
3 Cups Water
1 Cup Apple Juice
1 Cup Steel Cut Oats
1 Teaspoon Cinnamon
1 Tablespoon Honey (more if you really want this to be sweet)
Sprinkle of Nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to the crock and stir.
  2. Cook on low for 4-6 hours stirring about every hour. (Or cook on High for 2-4 hours making sure to stir every hour.)
  3. Serve with a little brown sugar, honey, maple syrup or whatever your hear desires on top! I chose honey.

Notes

According to the Cooking With Jax blog, you can cook this longer on low and not stir but you will want to add an additional cup of water to cook on low for 7-8 hours. It will come out mushier this way. I cooked mine on low for 4 hours in a 4 quart crock and it was great!
